Travel Information

    Qinhuangdao is a beautifully coastal city in the Hebei province of China, and it was named by the Qin emperor: Qin Shi Huang over two thousand years ago. Also, it is close to Beijing and Tianjin, in which the Fast-Train times of Qinhuangdao/Beidaihe to Beijing and Qinhuangdao/Beidaihe to Tianjin are 2 hours and 1 hour, respectively. Qinhuangdao is located on the Bohai Sea, and also in the innermost gulf of the Yellow Sea. Qinhuangdao has three basic districts as follows:
① Beidaihe: A seaside resort, many political decision affecting China are made here, this makes it the equivalent to some resorts, for example, Maine or Camp David at Maryland, USA; and Sochi in Russia.
② Haigang: A harbor city, including Qinhuangdao Sea Port, Yanshan University, and Olympic Sports Centre Stadium.
③ Shanhaiguan: A popular tourist destination, including, Old Faucet (the eastern beginning of the Great Wall), Cape Hill, Hanging Hole, and Yansai Lake.
    


Beidaihe District

 

(1) Dove Nest Park

     

     Dove Nest Park: Eagle Park, located in the northeast corner of the Beidaihe beach, covering more than 300 acres, is famous as the best place to see the sunrise on the sea. In the past, flocks of seabirds settled on the rock at daytime, and inhabited in the splits at night. The natives called these seabirds as sea doves. In the north of the park there is a big dove nest tidal flatland. Daily ebb and flow of the tide has been the unchangeable sight here over thousands of years. It is a great place that flocks of seagulls scouring for food on a piece of wetland in the Dove Nest Park. There are 416 kinds of birds found at Beidaihe. It plays host to 18 species of gulls, 3 of swans, and 6 of cranes. Sometimes there are as many as 2729 oriental white storks recorded in Beidaihe. Due to the formation fracture, 20 meters coastal cliff was formed. There is a rugged rock on the cliff, looking like the eagle standing in the sea and an eagle angle pavilion was built on the top of the cliff.

(2) Tiger Stone Park

     

     Tiger Stones Park, the stones into the sea are shaped like a group of tigers. Tiger stone bathing spot is the central bathing beach of Beidaihe, where the beach is wide and has a gentle slope and good water quality, thus they become the largest summer bathing beach. There is a small pier in the west of the tiger stone park, specially permitted to establish by Du Zhu Comrade in 1957, where can park small yachts, cruise ships. There is a small “turtle pavilion” in the west of the pier. It is an ideal place to watch and fish. There are many distinctive sanatoriums around the park.

(3) Lian-Feng Mountain Park

         

    Lian-Feng Mountain Park, also known as Lian Pengshan Park, is located in the north of the Beidaihe beach. The scenic area covers an area of 6000 acres. The park was built in 1919. It is the largest forest park in Beidaihe, with activities of mountaineering, forest exploration, history visit, oxygen bar as characteristics. The original terrain and vegetation were preserved integral. Due to adjacent to the sea, high negative oxygen ion, the regular concentration remains at 3000 to 8000/cm3, with the highest measured concentration of 14000/cm3. The central government established a summer resort in 1954. The altitude of the mountain is 153 meters, which is the highest place of Beidaihe. There is a Peak on the top, called WangHai pavilion. We can get a panoramic view of Beidaihe beach on the pavilion.


Haigang District        

Qinshihuang Immortality into the sea

     Qinshihuang Immortality into the Sea: located in the southeast of Haigang District. It is a man-made landscape. The First Emperor: Qin Shi Huang, went there to pray for living forever. The main attraction of the palace is Emperor Immortality statue of the Warring States style, the house of Immortality, the composition of celestial Temple and other attractions.


Shanhaiguan District    

(1) The world's first mark

 

     The world's first mark: 15 km east of Qinhuangdao urban, is the easternmost of the Great Wall which is historically an important military stronghold. It became known as the First Pass under Heaven since ancient times. It was set up by General Xu Da in 1381 (the 14th year of the Ming Hongwu reign). It is considered as the eastern beginning of the Great Wall since 1990. The Shing Mun, with generous style appearance, is about 13 meters high and is divided into upper and lower two tiers. Beneath the upper floor of the west, a board of “the First Pass under Heaven” is hung, written in the Ming Dynasty by calligrapher Xiao. The scenic area covers an area of 0.1 square kilometers, including the “the First Pass Under Heaven” Jianlou, Jingbianlou, pastoral lou, Linlulou, Ruilian Pavilion Park, wengcheng and 1350 meters Ming Dynasty Great Wall and other landscape.

(2) Old Dragon Head

 

     Old Dragon Head: located on the shore of the Bohai Sea about 4 kilometers away from the city of Shanhaiguan. Old Dragon Head is the starting point of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall. Setting against the mountain and facing the sea, an 11 meters high wall was constructed with stones at its base, with a section of about 25 meters extending down to the sea. It was called “stone wall entering the sea” which was built by Qijiguang who was the commander of the garrison troops in the Ming Dynasty. The huge stone wall looks like a dragon’s head poking into the sea. Old Dragon Head consists of stone wall entering the sea, Jinglutai, Nanhaikouguan, and Chenghailou. The tower of Chenghailou was first built in the Ming Dynasty. There are two horizontal inscribed boards hung on the Chenghailou, one of which was written by Sun Chengzong, a high official of the Ming and the other was written by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing. Standing on the wall of Old Dragon Head, we can enjoy a panoramic view of the vast sky, the boundless surging sea and the magnificent ranging mountains.
